Laurelwood brewery project: NE location Room #2

A surreal cartoon backdrop in the play area

The craft beer icons became cloud formations.

I added a small country side castle with a rooster in the cloud

I completed with a spaceship and an elephant

Laurelwood Brewery projects: NE location Murals

I had some challenging areas to paint. The mural goes up the wall past the conduit.

Every Laurelwood Brewery in Portland and Battleground Wa. has a play area for toddlers and children. Its kind of a nice thing for parents because they flood in here at lunch and afterwards to relax, have some tasty beer, really good food and watch their kids. Beer N Baby sit. Im not exaggerating when I say good food. Laurelwood has some of the best Brew pub food around! Its even safe for Vegans and Vegetarians. I must have tried most everything and it was good. So I was hired on to give a really boring area in the back of their pub some life! It was just a plain red wall!

It needed to be kid oriented since its in the play areas. We came up with an enchanted forest type theme. I thought having cartoonish trees with a banner flowing through them would be nice with
a wooded path leading to an old archway on the wall in the play area. I even went as far as to        paint in the branches and leaves on the ceiling.  I did it in sort of an illustrative fairy tale style.
I used paint pigments and glaze along with varnish and acrylic colors to keep the dry time open enough to illustrate the lines and shade in areas of concentration. Other areas I rolled on the colors and fauxed. It turned out pretty nice. I wished I didnt take these pictures with the lights on! It creates a distorted glare! Oh well.

Empress Estate in Woodland Wa. Fireplace Faux project #1

One of the first projects i was hired to do at the Estate in Woodland Wa.This Fireplace mantel is going to be primed, sanded and covered with lime plaster stucco then a color wash will be added to complete the finish. I will have more photos soon!

The Empress Estate sits on a bluff overlooking the small-ish, quiet town of Woodland just 28 miles from Portland. Its look was restored to a Europen chateau look with its surreal swirlling sandstone stucco columns, gargoyles and dipping roofline. Its going to be a bed and breakfast type getaway place. It reminds me of some places I painted in northern Cali in the Sonoma valley.

Here's the entrance way with its mighty cypresses that came from Italy. A lot of detail went into this place! The owner Zoe has quite a vision for it as it sits on about 20,000 sq ft!
